Layering with the Hydrangea

There’s nothing better than a gorgeous floral stamp to play with, and learning layering with the Hydrangea Stamp Set from Altenew has been a lot of fun. With so many different ways to use this set it was hard to pick a final project card to submit for my Altenew Educator Certification Program but I finally settled on this one.

How to Use the Hydrangea Stamp Set

The Hydrangea Stamp Set is definitely one of the harder sets to layer with at first, but if you keep persevering it eventually all clicks. You need to be super careful to line them up correctly so take your time and practice first. There are four parts to the hydrangea flower stamps. One is the outline and another is the solid colour (or base stamp). The other two are detailed stamps that create more interest. They can be used together or separately depending on how detailed you want it, or how skilled you are at lining them up.

I only used one of the detailed stamps (because I’m still not quite there on the lining up bit yet) but I did use two different blues for the flowers to create some contrast. The leaves are super easy to line up though, and they stamp so well.

I created a simple background for this card using the diagonals stencil from Clearly Besotted and the Oasis ink pad from Spectrum Noir. I cut a rectangle using my Sue Wilson stitched nesting rectangle dies and then masked a section in the centre so that the stencilled shape was a little bit smaller. Once the images were all stamped on Neenah Classic Crest white card, I fussy cut them out and glued them onto the cover piece. Then I attached the cover piece to the card base to finish it off.

Finally, I used the ‘For You’ sentiment stamp on more Neenah white and embossed it with Metalline Dark Blue embossing powder from WOW! Embossing, before sticking it to the top right of my card using foam tape.

And that is my card complete. I’d love to see any of your makes using the Altenew Garden Hydrangea die set, so please share them with me on Instagram! Happy crafting!
