Welcome back to my blog, and today’s post is a truly exciting one. I’m taking part in a pretty epic blog hop to raise awareness about Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. EDS is a disease that weakens the connective tissues of your body making joints abnormally flexible. One of our absolutely fabulous crafty friends, @handmadebytasha, is a sufferer of EDS – not that she gives it away with her wonderfully bubbly personality and the gloriously happy creations she shares on her channels. And because May is EDS Awareness month, a whole bunch of us are taking part in this amazing event to spread the word and share some love. And boy is this event amazing….just wait until you see the prizes on offer!
My EDS Card
For this blog hop, Tasha challenged me to make a card that celebrates the theme of Happiness, so that made my choice of card pretty easy. Aside from my family and friends, crafting makes me happy. And in particular, I have grown very fond of watercolouring embossed images. If you’ve been following my Instagram feed and blogs you’ll probably have guess that though. 😀
I started my card by stamping the new Altenew Beautiful Peony stamp set onto thick watercolour card. I used Versamark embossing ink and heat embossed the flowers with WOW! Embossing powder in Super Fine Gold.
I dropped some ink from the Spectrum Noir Aquatint Inks into the flowers and moved it around with water. The colours from these inks are really intense so you don’t have to use much at all to create really beautiful blends. I dried them quickly using my heat tool so that I could die cut them out without smudging.
I took a piece of blue heavyweight cardstock from @papermilldirect and stamped it all over using just the leaves from the stamp set. I heat embossed these with the same gold and then used my Sue Wilson double stitched rectangle dies to cut out a front panel for my card.
I wanted to create a highlight on the cardstock so that the flowers would stand out more, so I used distress ink in Blueprint Sketch to blend in from the outside, and Stormy Sky distress oxide to blend from the centre outwards. It gives a kind of spotlight look on the card.
I picked a sentiment from the Altenew Beautiful Quotes stamp set and heat set it with gold onto black card and then began to assemble my card. I glued the blue card panel onto a white card base and then arranged the flowers and sentiments onto the card using a mixed of tape roller nd 3D foam squares.
